(Rancho Cucamonga) The Chaffey College Foundation is hosting the 2012 Annual Alumni of the Year/ Athletic Hall of Fame Dinner on Thursday, April 5 at the DoubleTree Hotel in Ontario. The event draws more than 250 attendees by local community members and even those from across the country.

The Alumni of the Year award recognizes individuals who have attended Chaffey College and served the community in an exemplary manner. Individuals are recognized for their service to the community, for being an outstanding citizen, and for serving as an excellent representative of the quality education provided by Chaffey College.

The 2012 Chaffey College Alumni of the Year recipients are Aref Fakhoury, Retired Warden of the California Institution for Men; Christine Fabiani, Founder and Executive Director of Knots of Love; and Michael B. Sherman, Interim Fire Chief, in Idyllwild.

The collaborative event also recognizes outstanding Chaffey College student- athletes. The Athletic Hall of Fame award honors individuals who have either participated in or provided service to the Chaffey College athletic program. The college has not only benefited from their participation, but has valued from their ability to serve their communities.

This year four former athletes will be inducted into the Chaffey College Athletic Hall of Fame. These inductees are: Manuel Gallardo, tennis 1958-60 and Vons Grocery store manager; Cindy Gurney, service 1977-79 and Alta Loma High School teacher/coach; Calvin Jones, baseball 1983-85, Los Angeles Dodgers scout; and Greg Walton, baseball 1975-77, G.W. Walton Acoustics, president.

This year's recipients will be recognized at the Annual Alumni of the Year /Athletic Hall of Fame Dinner on April 5, 2012. The event will be at the Doubletree Hotel and commences at 5:30 pm with dinner following at 6:30 pm. The event is open to the public. Tickets are available through the Chaffey College Foundation for $60 per person, $100 per couple, or $400 per table.
