This Year’s Commencement Speaker
(Rancho Cucamonga) - Chaffey College is preparing to celebrate its 100th commencement ceremony; with officials anticipating the largest class in history with students earning more than 5,000 degrees and certificates.

“At Chaffey College, we believe that education is the true equalizer,” said Superintendent/President Dr. Henry Shannon. “The Class of 2017 is filled with graduates who worked hard and sacrificed much to reach their academic goals. Commencement is truly a time for all of us to see the beauty of the work we do in higher education, because the success of every student is our success as well.”

The commencement ceremony is being held off campus for the first time at Citizens Bank Arena in Ontario. All previous commencements were held at the college’s football field. With each year’s graduating class growing in number and the unpredictable nature of weather, the indoor venue seemed appropriate.  “With the friends and family of our graduates and our faculty and staff attending to support this year’s graduates, we expect reaching capacity in the arena,” said Vice President of Student Services Dr. Eric Bishop.

This year’s commencement speaker will be Executive Vice President at PepsiCo and acclaimed author, Richard Montañez, who will share his story of how his idea to spice up Cheetos changed his life and career. Montañez worked as a janitor locally at the Rancho Cucamonga Frito-Lay plant when he came up with the Flaming Hot Cheetos concept and today, serves as Executive Vice President of Multicultural Sales and Community Activation.
