Class Overview

The Emergency Medical Technician course is an intensive 16 or 7 week course depending on semester.

The EMT course will provide the students training in the recognition of the signs and symptoms of illness and traumatic injuries, as well as perform life-saving skills. 

The EMT course will consist of classroom lectures, online content, manipulative skills practice, clinical and ambulance field experience. The field experience requires a combined total of 24 hours in a local emergency department and emergency ambulance. Scheduling of shifts will be established by faculty, and every effort is made to accommodate the students work schedule.  The field experience will be completed outside of scheduled classroom sessions.

The EMT program is intended as an introductory course to provide the student with basic skills and knowledge required to be employed as an Emergency Medical Technician. Upon meeting all prerequisites, the EMT may advance to the next provider level, Paramedic training.

The EMT course includes 160 hours of classroom and lab instruction, including field and clinical internship. A minimum overall score of 80% is required on module examinations, and on the final examination.   Additionally, all EMT skills must have a 100% pass rate for successful completion of this class. There are no exceptions.

This class meets and is approved by the Local EMSA Inland Counties EMS Agency (ICEMA). Upon successful completion of the course, students are eligible to register for the National Registry licensing examination which is taken off campus at an approved testing site.

The NREMT (National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians) Exam is a standardized exam that must be successfully completed to receive EMT certification and become employed as an EMT. You must be at least 18 years of age, have successfully completed EMT training courses, and take the exam within 2 years of your EMT training course completion.
