ENGLISH/MATH/ESL COURSE PLACEMENT

Chaffey College is in the process of modifying the assessment/course placement process for English and Math courses.

We are excited to share that California State Law AB 705 gives more students the opportunity to enroll directly in transfer-level math and English courses via the placement process.

Placement into math and English courses is no longer conducted through the use of tests.

For placement into ESL courses students must take the Classic Accuplacer ESL Sentence Meaning and ESL Language Use tests.

Option 1 – In person placement (available to all students for English, Math or ESL)

Students can call 909-652-6239 to schedule an appointment for in-person placement at the Chino, Fontana, or Rancho Cucamonga campuses.

To schedule an appointment online, click below:

RANCHO CUCAMONGA CAMPUS CHINO CAMPUS FONTANA CAMPUS

Option 2 – Online placement (English and math placement)

Students who would like to complete the placement process online may e-mail assessment.staff@chaffey.edu to request a remote placement voucher.

Please include your student ID number and date of birth in your request.

PLEASE NOTE: Online placement MUST be completed during normal Placement & Testing Center Hours, due to platform rules and limitations.

Monday and Thursday: 8am to 6:45pm (occasionally closed for lunch from 11:45 to 12:45)
Tuesday and Wednesday: 8am to 4:15pm (occasionally closed for lunch from 11:45 to 12:45)
Friday: 8am to 3:45pm (occasionally closed for lunch from 11:45 to 12:45)

Template for e-mail

My name is John Smith. My student ID number is 0123456. My date of birth is 01/01/2000. Please send me a remote placement voucher.
Thank you,
John

Option 3 – Alternative Placements

A: Transcripts from another college/university

Students who have completed English or mathematics courses at another college/university, verified by official transcripts, will have their assessment requirement automatically cleared within 48 hours of receipt of official transcripts. Please e-mail transcript.evaluator@chaffey.edu if you have questions.

B: AP Exams

Students who have earned a score of 3 or higher on an AP examination in English or mathematics verified by official College Board test results must submit a Pre-requisite/Co-requisite validation form. Request form can be submitted by e-mail/fax/in person.

C. CAASPP/SBAC/SAT/ACT

Students who achieved a score of Standard exceeded or a score of 4 in English will place in English 1A, Composition. You will need to complete the SBAC and SAT clearance form available online or in person at the Counseling department. SBAC results are valid up to a year after graduating from high school. Scores report will need be attached.

Students who achieved a score of 500 or above on their SAT English or a score of 22 and above on the ACT English will place in English 1A, Composition. You will need to complete the SBAC and SAT clearance form available online or in person at the Counseling department. Score report will need to be attached.
