Immigration-based trauma and stress impact the educational journey of children and youth in our PreK-12 classrooms, higher education institutions, and beyond. In the U.S., there are close to 17 million people who are living in a mixed-status family. Evidence points to an existing gap in social-emotional learning and student-centered support provided to DACA/undocumented students, as well as students from mixed-status families nationwide. Historically, immigration status has been used by both political parties for their own political gain, impacting the lives of millions of people. At Aliento, we transform trauma into hope and action with undocumented youth, DACA recipients, and mixed-status families. We work at the intersections of immigration, education, mental health, and the arts. Join us in this session to learn how we are transforming Arizona from an epicenter of hate and fear to an epicenter of hope!
