Chaffey College’s Wignall Gallery is planning for early 2002 a four-site exhibition, which is called “Sam Maloof: Family and Friends.” It will show works by Sam Maloof, Mike Johnson, David Wade, Larry White, Rebecca Maloof, Sioux Bally and Slimen Maloof.

The Cooper Regional History Museum in downtown Upland will chronical the move of the historic Maloof house and shop, through storyboards, photos and models.

In its temporary gallery, just east of the former Ontario City Hall site on Euclid Avenue, the Ontario Museum of History and Art will display works from the Maloof Collection by various regional and national artists.

dA Center for the Arts in downtown Pomona’s Art Colony will house a show of works juried by the seven artists from the Wignall Gallery’s Exhibition.
All four shows of this four-site exhibition there will be a Feb. 23 house and shop tour of both the new Maloof home and the newly moved and rebuilt historic Maloof compound.

Sam Maloof begins a new tradition in Alta Loma. After almost fifty years of building and expanding, the Maloof home was moved to make way for the freeway construction. In its new location, the original home unfolds as a series of surprises. Every room contains beautiful things collected by the Maloof family.

Maloof was born in Chino, California of Lebanese parents. His career in furniture making began in 1948. He has participated in exhibitions throughout the world. His work is included in major museum collections and is featured in important private collections. Throughout his career, Maloof's work has been the subject of films, articles, and books. Maloof is a recipient of the coveted McArthur Genius Award and is recognized as a leader in his field. He is currently honored in a major one person exhibition at the Smithsonian Institution's Renwick Gallery in Washington D.C.

This is one of the first opportunities to see the art and workplace of Sam Maloof in the new location. The master craftsman continues the tradition of producing his internationally sought after furniture. The building and work shops were dismantled and reconstructed on the new Alta Loma site. The Maloof home contains one of the finest private collections of contemporary and indigenous art in the western United States.
