General Commencement Information

The Chaffey College Commencement Ceremony will be held Tuesday, May 20, 2008. All students completing the minimum requirements for graduation with the Degree of Associate in Arts, Associate in Science or program requirements in a Certificate Program throughout the 2007-2008 school year may participate.
The last day to apply for graduation through the Counseling Center is March 7, 2008, by 4:00 p.m.

For further information regarding your graduation application please see your counselor. For information on your diploma or certificate, please see the Office of Admissions and Records. For information on regalia and announcements, please inquire at the Bookstore. For any details on the actual ceremony itself, please contact the Office of Student Activities. All grad letters are sent out to eligible participants the first week in April.

Diplomas will not be presented at commencement. Spring diplomas will be mailed the first week in September.

Graduation With Honors

If your degree applicable GPA is 3.50 or higher as of Fall 2007 in degree applicable units, please come to the Office of Student Activities after April 16th (this applies only to graduates with an AA/AS degree). Student Activities will have a roster of all students who have applied for graduation and who have a 3.50 GPA or higher. Upon verifying honors information, you will be given a voucher to present to the Bookstore to purchase the red satin honors sash and gold tassel- $27.50. Any questions, call Student Activities at 909/652-6589.


Valedictorian

To be eligible for selection as valedictorian, students must have earned a cumulative 4.0 GPA in degree applicable units and have completed a minimum of 12 degree applicable units each term, except the first term in college, which may be fewer than 12 units. Please refer to the College catalogue for further details. The college evaluator notifies the office of student activities of who qualifies for this honor.


Information for Ceremony Participants

Your Guests

PLEASE ADVISE YOUR GUESTS ON THE FOLLOWING:
  • Ceremony will last about 90 minutes
  • Be early, seating on first come basis
  • Guests should be in their seats by 6:45pm
  • Guests are not allowed on the grass area when commencement is taking place
  • If you have disabled guests coming:
    • They should arrive by 6pm and park in Lot 24
    • Transportation will be provided to drive them to their seating area, where CC staff will assist them to their seats. Seating in this area is limited to the disabled person and one attendant.
    • Seating will be below the bleachers on the South side of the stadium.
  • Tickets are not required for your guests.
  • Seating is limited, so please invite only closest family and friends.

IMPORTANT FACTS FOR YOU – THE GRADUATE

MANDATORY REHEARSAL
May 20, 2008 • 1:00 p.m.-2:00 p.m.
Grigsby Field (Stadium) BE PROMPT!

Attendance at Rehearsal is mandatory.

Important information will be given regarding the ceremony. Please do not bring your cap and gown to the rehearsal.

ASSEMBLE FOR CEREMONY
6:00 p.m on the tennis court

  • Be early. Parking will be difficult to find if you are late. See map on reverse side.
  • Appropriate attire is required. If you do not have your cap and gown, you will not be able to participate in the ceremony. Only sanctioned commencement regalia may be worn.
  • As a courtesy to your fellow graduates and guests cell phones are prohibited.
  • For safety reasons, flat shoes only please!

Caps & Gowns

Purchase your cap and gown at the Chaffey College Campus Bookstore. Be sure to purchase your cap and gown by this deadline. The bookstore cannot guarantee adequate stock of all items needed after the deadline in May.

Bookstore Hours
Monday - Thursday 7:30am to 6:30pm
Friday 7:30am to 4:00pm

AA, AS, and Certificate degree recipients wear a black cap and gown with a tassel on cap. The cost includes the cap, gown, and tassel.

Announcements and graduation gifts will be available for purchase at the bookstore.
