SIXTH CLASS OF CHAFFEY COLLEGE "ONLINE TO COLLEGE" STUDENTS GRADUATE - RECEIVNG A FREE EDUCATION AT CHAFFEY COLLEGE

(Rancho Cucamonga) Chaffey College will host the sixth graduating class of the Online to College students on Tuesday, May 17 from 6:00 pm - 7:00 pm at the Montclair City Council Chambers. The ceremony celebrates the success of 131 Online to College graduates of Montclair High School's Class of 2011.

Chaffey College, the City of Montclair, Ontario/Montclair School District, and the Montclair Collaborative created the Online to College program in 1998 to improve the college-going rate of students in Montclair. The Online to College program promises students a free education at Chaffey College after graduation. In order to be eligible for the scholarships students must remain in a participating OMSD school from fifth grade and successfully graduate from Montclair High School.

Every year a new cohort of fifth grade students enrolled in participating schools in the Ontario-Montclair School District enters the Online to College program. This year, approximately 3,000 students receive the Online to College message - "YOU CAN SUCCEED."

The Online to College program is a unique program among community colleges. It was developed through the collaborative efforts of educators, city leaders, and community members. "When we developed this program we believed it would be successful," said Dr. Bonnie Mooney, coordinator of student families support services with the Ontario-Montclair School District. "As these students graduate and chose to go to college, they are living the dream," affirmed Dr. Mooney.

The Online to College is the work of numerous people and organizations. The Montclair Community Collaborative and their staff continually support the program in many functions. The City of Montclair supplies much of the budget to operate the program, the targeted schools assist in the coordination, the community, non-profits and businesses give prizes and donations for the students. Many of Chaffey College faculty, staff and administrators have volunteered their time and resources to assist the students and families of the Online to College.

The Chaffey College Foundation embraces the program and is committed to provide the funds necessary for these students to attend Chaffey College. Though the leadership and dedication of the Chaffey College Governing Board and commitment of the Chaffey College Foundation, each of the 131 graduates will be presented the ultimate reward - a free education at Chaffey College.

The Montclair City Council Chambers is located at 5111 Benito Street, Montclair. For information on the 2011 Online to College graduation ceremony, contact Peggy Cartwright (909) 652-6115.
