LAURA HOPE NAMED DEAN, INSTRUCTIONAL SUPPORT
Laura Hope was named Dean of Instructional Support by the Chaffey College Governing Board at the May Board meeting. Hope has served as the Interim, Dean of Instructional Support prior to earning the permanent position. Her employment at Chaffey began 20 years ago as Professor of English, later leading the School of Language Arts as the Interim, Dean of the School. Hope has been instrumental in developing curriculum, expanding academic programs, and creating successful support services for the betterment of students.
Hope was a Chaffey College student, transferring in 1985 to California State University, San Bernardino where she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in English and a Master of Arts degree in Rhetoric and Composition.
In 2000, Hope was elected Faculty Lecturer of the Year presenting "The Ties that Bind: Exploring the Poetry of Mothers and Sons." She was also a leader in the development of the Success Center network and a co-founder of the Chaffey College associate's degree program for inmates at the California Institution for Women.
As the Dean of Instructional Support, Hope provides leadership, direction, general supervision, and evaluation of learning support services, enrollment management (including basic skills initiative and student learning outcomes), and summer school.
Hope also supervises a number of college-wide initiatives designed to enhance, improve, and diversify access to learning, such as Distance Education, the Success Centers, the Honors Program, Professional Development, Supplemental Instruction, and the Library.
As a former Chaffey student herself, the chance to support the learning of new and continuing students is an honor and a privilege. Hope believes that the connectivity of the resources in the School of Instructional Support transforms access to education into the opportunity to succeed with an education. Hope adds, "I am very pleased to have the opportunity to work with wonderful students, faculty and staff under the leadership of Dr. Guerrero, (VP of Instruction and Student Support), and Dr. Shannon, (Superintendent/President)."
