CHAFFEY COLLEGE REPORTS RECORD NUMBER OF STUDENTS FOR FALL SEMESTER 2008
(Rancho Cucamonga) Chaffey College began the academic year on Monday, August 25 reaching a historical milestone. A record number of students attended classes at the college's three campuses. At the start of the day, 19,053 students were enrolled in classes, exceeding the 18,335 students enrolled at the same date last year. This represents a 3.92% increase or 718 additional students.
In March 2008, the Chaffey College Chino campus opened. This is the first semester students in the Chino Valley have been offered a full array of academic courses. The number of students attending classes at the Chino campus increased 33% or 669 additional students this semester over the fall 2007 semester. The total number of students enrolled in courses in Chino is 2,676.
Enrollment at the Chaffey College Fontana campus increased 3.75% to 2,270 students. Followed by more than 2,300 students, a 6.16% increase, enrolled in the college's distance education (Internet) courses. The student headcount at the Rancho Cucamonga campus is 15,461, representing an increase of 1.13% from the fall 2007 semester.
This year, students are experiencing changes in the student services operation with the opening of the new Marie Kane Center for Student Services/Administration. Four new science buildings opened offering instructional facilities for students taking chemistry, biology, anatomy, anthropology, and zoology. A new educational excellence center provides students academic assistance through the college's success centers. Lastly, this summer the Physical, Life and Health Sciences facilities were renovated providing state-of-the-art training and education for students in nursing, pharmacy technology, dental assisting, and life sciences.
Chaffey College is a community college offering two-year degrees and transfer courses for students pursuing a baccalaureate degree. Chaffey also offers excellent occupational training for those pursuing professional development.
