CHAFFEY COLLEGE CELEBRATES 125th ANNIVERSARY ON MARCH 29, 2008

(Rancho Cucamonga) Chaffey College celebrates its 125th anniversary on Saturday, March 29, 2008 from 10:00 am - 5:00 pm on the college's main campus in Rancho Cucamonga. The celebration marks the 125th year since opening on March 17, 1883. Land developer brothers, George and William Chaffey founded the college as the Chaffey College School of Agriculture of the University of Southern California.

Since its opening, the Chaffey Community College District has seen numerous changes, from the separation from USC and the Chaffey High School in Ontario, to relocating to Rancho Cucamonga and opening two additional campuses in Fontana and Chino. In addition, enrollment at the college has reached an all time high this year with more than 19,000 students.

On March 29, an anniversary celebration/open house will be held to celebrate with the community the college's accomplishments. College officials have planned a full day of activities, academic and vocational demonstrations, campus tours, live entertainment, and much more.

Alumni, faculty, staff, and members of the community are encouraged to attend and bring Chaffey College memorabilia to be displayed in the college library. The college art committee is hosting a "Temporary Art Park" exhibition, while the Wignall Museum/Gallery will feature the "Student Invitational - 30 years revisited" an art exhibit by former Chaffey College students.

The formal anniversary celebration will take place during the barbecue lunch from 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm. State and local dignitaries, college officials, and alumni will recognize the college's achievements during the past 125 years.

The Chaffey College 125th anniversary celebration is free and open to the public. For additional information on the celebration, history of Chaffey College, and a schedule of events, please visit the college website at www.chaffey.edu/125.
