EMERGENCY PREPAREDNESS

Guidelines for Psychiatric Emergencies

VIOLATIONS OF THE STUDENT CODE OF CONDUCT
This might include disruptive behavior, physical or verbal abuse, threatening or aggressive behavior, substance abuse. See the Student Behavior Code for more information.
  • Speak to the student about the violation.
  • If a student's conduct is threatening or aggressive to others call Campus Police at 909/652-6911.
  • Contact the Dean, Student Services and Discipline by phone at 909/652-6508 or e-mail the same day the violation occurred.
  • Complete Student Behavior Code Violation Form.
  • Submit a report to the Dean, Student Services and Discipline.
  • Call the Evening Administrator if the incident happens between 4:30-7:00 p.m., Monday thru Friday at office # 909/652-6508 or cell # 909/633-6671.
  • If the incident happens after 7:00pm call Campus Police at 909/652-6911.
EXTREME EMOTIONAL OUTBURSTS AND STRANGE BEHAVIOR
This might include disorientated, confused behavior, depression, restlessness, stress related behavior.
  • Try to speak to the student and ask him/her to stop the behavior or leave the classroom, if possible try to deescalate the situation.
  • Speak to the student after class and tell the student about the free counseling at Student Health Services.
  • For severe incidences and when student is not responding to the above steps, dismiss the entire class or take a break.
  • Call Campus Police at 909/652-6911.
  • Document the incident with Campus Police.
  • Contact Student Health Services Monday-Friday, 7:30am-4:30pm at 909/652-6331.
  • Submit a report to your Dean.
  • Call the Evening Administrator if the incident happens between 4:30-7:00 p.m., Monday thru Friday at office #909/652-6508 or cell # 909/633-6671.
  • If the incident happens after 7:00pm call Campus Police at 909/652-6911.
EXTREME DEPRESSION OR SUICIDAL BEHAVIOR
The student's behavior is characterized by sadness, despondence, hopelessness or low energy; it may be verbal or written.
  • Speak to the student about the situation and recommend Student Health Services free counseling services and referrals.
  • Contact Student Health Services Monday-Friday, 7:30am-4:30pm at 909/652-6331. If possible, accompany the student to Health Services.
  • Contact Campus Police at 909/652-6911, if Student Health is closed.
  • Call the Evening Administrator if the incident happens between 4:30-7:00 p.m., Monday thru Friday at office # 909/652-6508 or cell # 909/633-6671.
  • If the incident happens after 7:00pm call Campus Police at 909/652-6911.
HEALTH RELATED INCIDENTS
This might include any type of seizure, heart problems, fainting, or falling.
  • Call 911 if it is a life threatening emergency.
  • Call Student Health Services at 909/652-6331 if the incident happens between 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday-Friday.
  • Call Campus Police at 909/652-6911.
  • Call the Evening Administrator if the incident happens between 4:30-7:00 p.m., Monday-Friday at office # 909/652-6508 or cell # 909/633-6671.
  • If the incident happens after 7:00pm call Campus Police at 909/652-6911.
SEXUAL ABUSE/ASSAULT
This behavior includes any type of unwanted or forced sexual contact.
  • Call Student Health Services at 909/652-6331 if the incident happens between 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday-Friday.
  • Call Campus Police at 909/652-6911.
  • Call the Evening Administrator if incident happens between 4:30-7:00 p.m., Monday thru Friday at office # 909/652-6508 or cell # 909/633-6671.
  • If the incident happens after 7:00pm call Campus Police at 909/652-6911.
SEXUAL HARASSMENT
This behavior includes unwanted sexual advances or propositions, verbal abuse of a sexual nature, verbal commentaries about an individual's body, displaying suggestive or obscene materials.

PROHIBITION OF HARASSMENT
The district shall be free of unlawful harassment, including that which is based on a protected status: Race, color, national origin, ancestry, religion, creed, sex, age, physical disability, sexual orientation, or the perception that a person has one or more of the foregoing characteristics. Harassment includes making derogatory written, verbal, physical and/or visual expression relating to a person's protected status when such behavior interferes with the individual's work performance or creates an intimidating work or study environment.
  • If an employee is being harassed, contact Human Resources at 909/652-6532.
  • If a student is being harassed have them contact Student Health Services at 909/652-3331.
  • Students being harassed on the campus will also need to contact Campus Police at 909/652-6911.
  • If a student is harassing a faculty member notify your Dean, Human Resources, and the Dean, Student Services and Discipline at 909/652-6508.
  • Call the Evening Administrator if the incident happens between 4:30-7:00p.m., Monday thru Friday at office # 909/652-6508 or cell # 909/633-6671.
