SHORT-TERM TEMPORARY HOURLY POSITION

WEB/GRAPHICS ASSISTANT

Start Date:                 July 1, 2008

Hourly Rate:             $10.25/hour 

Working Hours:        20 hours per week.  Must be able to maintain a flexible work schedule which may include weekend and evening assignments.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

A.             Assist the graphic artist with design and production of printed materials for a variety of college departments using appropriate material and supplies.

B.             Produce camera-ready material involving keyboarding, typesetting, editing, illustration, hand-lettering, mechanical separation, and other skills and materials for desktop/copier, traditional offset printing, and direct-to-press reproduction.

C.            Assist the electronic media coordinator with website development and design; develop, implement, and maintain website designs; edit related code (such as HTML, CSS, PHP, and Javascript) to implement website publication.

D.            Support the electronic media staff in the administration of maintenance of college web server hardware, software, and data files as requested.

E.             Assist in the research of current and emerging web technology to improve the functionality of websites; provide support and information regarding technology.

F.             Work effectively with the print shop staff on printing projects.

G.            Contribute to the overall development of the Chaffey College communications plan and goals

H.            Perform related duties as assigned.

SPECIFIC QUALIFICATIONS:

Must have knowledge of:

a.             Preparation techniques for various print and electronic, media including graphics layout, brochure, booklets, slide presentations, web pages, charts and graphics.

b.             Printing, typography, photography, camera-ready preparation, color separation, and other related subjects.

c.              Graphics and web software applications.

d.             Principles and theory of graphic design, research techniques, and methods used to create graphic images, website designs, basic publishing, and marketing techniques.

e.             Proper English usage, spelling, grammar, and vocabulary; ability to type and proofread accurately.

Ability to:

a.             Communicate effectively and establish cooperative working relationships with college personnel.

b.             Function effectively, with limited supervision, and at a high level of discretion, tact, and confidentiality, with a wide range of campus colleagues and clients. 

Desirable Qualifications:

a.             Hands-on use of Macintosh computer hardware and software, including QuarkXPress, Adobe Products:  Acrobat Professional, Illustrator, Photoshop, Flash, Dreamweaver.

b.             Experience in a fast-paced business or design environment requiring quick and accurate results to ever-changing deadlines and demands.
