English as a Second language
What is ESL?
Chaffey College offers a complete English as a Second Language program to help ESL students achieve English fluency. The program prepares students for higher education because it teaches them all areas of academic English as well as communication skills. Students may take as many or as few classes as they need in the areas that they choose.
Who can attend classes?
All Chaffey College students whose first language is not English.

Getting started in the ESL program
Step
One
Go to Admissions and pick up an application
Call the Language Success Center
if you have questions at 909/652-6907

Two
Take the application to the Admission Office in the Administration Building. 909/652-6600
Step
Three
After you turn in your application, go to the Counseling Office and make an appointment to take the placement exam. The counselors will help you decide which classes you should take.

Four
Return to Admissions and register for classes. After you have paid for all of your classes, admissions will make you a student ID card.

Go to your classes on the first day of school.

Six
Go to the Language Success Center (EEC-101) and sign up to use the Center. (You need your student ID card.)
If you Miss Registration…
You can fill out an application in SL-17 and take it to the admissions office, in the administration building. They will make an ID card for you.
Once you haves an ID card, you can use the center.
Language Success Center
At the Language Success Center, we are dedicated to providing students with reliable services to help them improve all areas of their language learning. We have tutors available as well as computer programs and small groups sessions. Students can work alone or with a group. They can get help with homework or just practice skills on which they need to work. The students that we serve are the reason that we are here, and we do whatever we can to help them become successful!
Services Offered
Tutors - to help with homework, studying, reviewing for tests, and reviewing classroom material
Computers - for listening, pronunciation, grammar, writing and Internet activities
Videos - to watch and listen to real conversations
Cassettes - to use for listening activities that help students review class material
Learning Groups - daily workshops on reading, grammar, writing and study skills
