| Article 20 of the labor agreement defines evaluations
procedures for all faculty. New, part-time instructors to Chaffey
College will be evaluated in the first year of teaching and, subsequent
to a satisfactory evaluation, again within three years.
Members of the full-time English faculty perform evaluations. Our objective is to insure the promotion of our department philosophy. Although we encourage and invite the implementation of a wide range of pedagogical practices, adherence to our guidelines and standards is essential for maintaining the cohesiveness and effectiveness of our department. The evaluator will contact you and make arrangements to attend and observe a class. Be prepared to present your syllabus, graded or marked student papers, current assignments, and your grade and roll sheets. Also, the evaluator will need 15 minutes of class time to conduct the student evaluation component of this process. During this period, you will be asked to leave the room. To insure anonymity of all students, you will not see the original student evaluations, but later you will receive a typed summary of their responses. The evaluator will write out the observations, fill out the appropriate forms, and share these with you. You are required to sign the written evaluation and return it to the evaluator. If you wish to respond to the evaluation, space is provided for you to do so. |
