ACADEMIC SUPPORT
Our Academic Support(s) consists of a variety of helpful services which can be combined with the help of a qualified professional counselor (resource specialist) to assist students plan, prepare, and complete their educational / vocational goals at Chaffey College.
The resource specialists in DPS will provide the student with a diagnosis of needs based on the student's goals and disability. They will give the student a realistic assessment of the impact the student's disability will have on functioning in a college setting. They will assist in selecting regular or special classes that are appropriate for the student's limitations and will try to prescribe appropriate support from the college to help the student complete college programs. Also provided is information through our Student Handbook.
In addition to the specialized counseling, DPS can provide a variety of academic supports. These include:
- Testing for possible inclusion in the learning disabilities program
- Campus orientation
- Sign language interpreters
- Mobility assistance on campus including wheel chair loans and trams
- Note taking assistance
- Test taking facilitation
- Braille transcription
- Facilities modifications
- Priority registration
- Print enlargers
- Computer assisted instruction
- Computers modified to accommodate student limitations
- Computer programs designed to assist various disabilities (such as programs that read text aloud)
- Referral to campus and community organizations
- Specialized classes designed for students with specific disabilities
- Community-based classes for students with specific disabilities
