D. If I am undecided, which program is best for
me?
Needless to say, the program that meets the educational requirements
for your chosen career is the best one for you. Your career goals will
direct you to complete a certificate, an AA/AS, and/or transfer to
earn a BA/BS degree or higher. If you are not certain about your career
goal at this time then you need to consider the following questions:
1. Do I plan to transfer to a 4-year college or university to earn
a bachelors degree?
Then follow the IGETC pattern of general education courses until you
finalize your career and major goals.
2. Am I looking for a short-term, skill-intensive type of occupational
program of study?
Review the occupational certificate programs and take introductory
courses in certificate programs that sound interesting.
3. Would I prefer to feel my way though different options by taking
courses in different subjects until I make a decision about a career?
The schedule of classes offers a broad cross-section of courses to
choose from. Taking courses in which you meet the prerequisites and
are of interest to you can help you explore major and career options.
4. The decision about a career is a difficult one for me to make at
this time in my life. Do I need career counseling or assistance with
this decision?
Chaffey offers assistance in career decision making through the Counseling
Department. You can schedule an appointment to speak with a counselor
about your career decision-making or explore career information through
the Transfer and Career Resources office located in the Counseling
Department. Guidance 3, Career Exploration and Life Planning,
courses are also offered to help you decide on a career.
5. Am I looking at completing the AA/AS degree at this time, and not
sure about the need to transfer to a 4-year college or university this
time or in the near future?
